I’ve always been cautious about slimming tea products. I believe that there’s no replacement for eating healthily and training right. However I have been curious about these Bootea teatox teas for some time, wondering if they really do work. You see a lot of people promoting them on social media, claiming excellent results; how much of this is paid marketing, and how much is the real deal?
I decided to find out. My other half bought the tea for me as a gift as Holland & Barrett were having their Penny Sale (which I love) and we were picking up several things (we got the tea and were able to pick up an expensive Manuka honey for a penny, so a pretty good deal).
First thing: it is pretty expensive. It’s £24.99 for the 14 day teatox and £36.99 for the 28 day teatox, when they’re not on offer. Which is a lot for tea, unless of course it really works.
There are two varieties, one which contains Senna, a gentle natural laxative, and one without. I chose the variety with Senna. You drink the morning tea every morning for 14 days, and the night time tea every other night. That’s it! I suppose the idea is that the natural ingredients stimulate your metabolism to speed and aid weight loss.
First of all, I really liked the taste. I was surprised at how nice it was to drink. I can’t vouch for everyone here, if you’re used to sugary drinks and hate tea it might not be for you, but it’s very mild and not at all bitter or astringent, so I liked it a lot. The morning and night tea taste different (the bedtime tea is kind of minty) and both are delicious in my opinion.
The one big thing I noticed is that I had so much energy! The whole time I was using this system, I felt really energised and awake before my morning coffee, and I can’t tell you how much of a big deal that is for me… I usually wake up feeling exhausted, and don’t even speak until I’ve had my first coffee (and can’t function normally until after my second! Unhealthy but true).
I wasn’t sure how this tea was going to work. I had three theories; firstly, I thought that it might suppress my appetite. I didn’t notice any significant change in appetite, although because I was so much more energised, I wasn’t feeling the need to turn to sugary snacks to get through the day. Secondly, I thought it might focus on reducing bloating for a slimmer look more than anything. I think I was slightly less bloated but it didn’t disappear completely and this didn’t seem to be the tea’s main effect. Thirdly, I worried the laxative effect would have me running to the bathroom in the morning, but that really wasn’t the case either.
I combined the tea with healthy eating, plenty of water, and plenty of exercise because of all the dancing I was doing in the run-up to auditions. I noticed that I had lots of energy, meaning I was not consuming so much sugar in an attempt to keep awake, and I was feeling motivated and up for exercising. I did not restrict my portions very much or count calories, I just ate healthily and I still had a few treats and even a couple of slip-ups! Yet I did lose weight, I lost 5lbs over the course of the 2 weeks, and it came off really easily. I lost an inch on my thighs and half an inch from my waist and bust.
The tea is very easy to use and I barely altered my routine at all, yet I saw results. So bottom line, I think that this tea works. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me personally, I felt great whilst using it, and the weight came off very easily. It was expensive, but I think it depends on the price you’re willing to pay for that little weight loss boost. I think it’s a good way to start a diet or to help get rid of the last few pounds if you’ve hit a plateau.
I’d love to do it again, maybe the 28-day teatox this time, and see what the effects are with longer-term use. They also have many other products which I’m now curious to try. Although I was sceptical about how genuine this product’s claims were, it’s now gotten a thumbs-up from me!
If you’ve tried Bootea or a similar product please let me know your experiences in the comments because I’d really like to hear about how other people got on with this!
